Pork Pad Thai Plate

I have talked about my favorite Thai place, now I’ll cover my boyfriend’s vote. One of my boyfriend’s co-workers took him here and he decided to share it with me. Although split between being a quick stop tea place and a restaurant, Chillin’ Thai Cuisine has a much more formal dining style than Krazy Noodle Thai BBQ, serving all your courses individually, (that is if you have multiple courses). I will start my description from the main dishes and work my way back.

Pork Pad Thai

If you read my last Thai post you know I love pork pad thai, so of course one of orders was pork pad Thai. It was pretty yummy. The noodles were well cooked, and for a nice change, were not super sticky, only slightly. The sauce had nice flavor, not so much the sweet and sour taste that I am used to, but still nice. Rather than being topped with fresh veggies, the vegetables are mixed into the pad Thai before serving. Still raw from what I could tell, but tenderized by the heat a little.

Sweet and Sour Pork

The other main dish we ordered, which I actually liked more than the pad Thai was their sweet an sour pork. I am very used to the fried versions you find at many fast food Chinese places, so when I received this fresh dish it was a wonderful surprise. The dish is comprised of lightly cooked veggies including tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and squash. Mixed in with the veggies is chunks of pineapple and pork. The dish is held together with an amazing, hot, sweet and sour sauce. It was hard not to devour the entire dish (we were sharing.)

Lunch Salad

We had ordered their lunch special which comes with a soup and salad. I hated the salad, but it was a personal problem on my side. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, but I absolutely hated the dressing. It was a peanut sauce and it tasted like liquid peanut butter. I am not a fan of peanut butter and was not happy to have it slathered on my lettuce. That being said my boyfriend loves peanut butter and loves the salad.

Lunch Soup

I am really not sure how to describe the soup. It is very thin with chunks of chicken in it. It has a sour taste with a hint of sweet. I have never really had anything like this so I am at a loss for descriptive words. It was an ok soup, in my opinion worked well as a palate cleanser before the main dish.

Fried Calamari

Now onto appetizers. We ordered two, their calamari and their spring rolls. The calamari is the best I have ever had, such big, tender, chunks, with amazing flavor. Their dipping sauce was sweet and spicy, but not over bearing. I couldn’t put them down! A nice surprise, along with the deep fried squid was deep fried broccoli, oddly satisfying.

Deep Fried Broccoli served with Calamari

The spring rolls were served piping hot with the same sauce as the calamari. They were pretty traditional, stuffed with carrots and cabbage. Sadly they were a little greasy.

Spring Rolls

I am not a boba fan, but the day we were there that had a special so my boyfriend convinced me to give it another shot. He got the classic milk tea with boba while I went with a Jasmine tea. I still didn’t like his, but mine was nice. Very subtle flavor and the boba wasn’t too bad either. The texture still creeped me out, but I was able to drink most of it.

Boba Tea

I do recommend trying Chillin’ Thai Cuisine, although be forewarned, they are not an in and out place. If you plan to eat there, expect to enjoy your meal. It is not that their service is slow, but if you have multiple courses you will almost be done with one before the next comes out. It is a nice place to unwind.
