Small Chicken Bowl

Yogi Teriyaki’s chicken bowl is now my absolute favorite. The chicken is grilled right behind the counter, in plain sight so you know where your food is coming from. It is cooked well, very flavorful and juicy. They offer a choice of brown rice (extra charge) and white rice, which is nice. The best part, their teriyaki sauce is the best! Absolutely amazing! I do wish more came with their to-go bowls, but for those dining in they have bottles of the sauce on the table so life is good. One last plus, lunch for under $10 within less than a 10 minute drive from Disneyland, that isn’t a drive-thru, how can you go wrong?

Feeding a 16 Year Old Football Player for Under $10

1/2 Pepperoni 1/2 Sausage Pizza

I like pizza, but I’m not a crazy pizza fanatic. I enjoy a hot cheesy slice, but I need to be in the mood. Pasadena Pizza Co. is a miracle worker who made me enjoy my cheesy pie, when I wasn’t even in the mood.

I had to take my nephew to a doctor’s appointment in Pasadena and had not eaten all day, so I was beyond hungry. I decided to let him make the choice and immediately he called for pizza. My initial reaction was, “ugh, oh no,” but like I said, I needed food and this was right down the street. So, I sucked it up and headed to the Pasadena Pizza Co. and was surprisingly pleased.

Potato Wedges

We ordered a small, half pepperoni, half sausage pizza, potato wedges, and a large drink; total, less than $10. That right there thrilled me. Have you ever fed a starving 20 something year old and a growing 16 year old football player for less than $10 and had them both leave beyond satisfied?

The pizza is thick crust, although they do have thin crust on request, with lots of cheese and a nice sauce. It was served piping hot. The potato wedges were crunchy and well-seasoned on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside. Topping off the great price and food quality the service was amazing, very polite and we were able to watch them make our pizza.

If I’m ever in the area I will be back.

Lu’au Hawaiian BBQ

Chicken Combo Plate

Lu’au Hawaiian BBQ is an awesome place if you are looking for a lot of food for pretty cheap. Compared to places like L&L, the quality of the food is not as great, but you get much more food for a lot less.

My boyfriend and I ordered their Chicken combo plate for $6.99. It comes with two pieces of BBQ chicken, two pieces of chicken katsu, rice and macaroni salad. First off this was almost double the food you would get at L&L. On top of that I am not a fan of macaroni salad, almost ever, but I actually enjoyed their’s. The flavor of their chicken and most of their sauces was not amazing, but also wasn’t bad either.

Another great deal Lu’au is offering is buy one chicken plate get one for 50% off. As crazy as their servings are that would be so much food for around $10.

Overall I did not think that Lu’au Hawaiian BBQ is by any means amazing food, but it is decent food, and you get a lot for a little. Would recommend trying if you are looking for a quick cheap bite and want a change from your usual fast food stops.

More Ruby’s Kitchen

4 Mar

Recently I had the chance to try some new things at Ruby’s Kitchen and they still continue to impress.

I ordered one of their slush drinks and we tried their fries, spring rolls, and a pork sandwich. All were pretty impressive and a definite recommendation.

My Mystery Drink

I can’t say for sure what drink I ultimately ended up with as I originally ordered one of their smoothies, but they were out of one ingredient so they offered me one of their slush drinks and then when they delivered it the waiter wasn’t sure what the cook had made me. Either way it was delicious, cold and refreshing.

French Fries

Their fries, although they may have been frozen were hot, crunchy, and had just the right amount of salt. A perfect price makes them the perfect snack.

Spring Rolls

I am not a fan of spring rolls so I do not have much to say in terms of these. They were well made and all the ingredients were fresh. One thing positive I can say is I was very surprised by their size.

Pork Sandwich

Their pork sandwich was yummy, just a little too much cilantro for my taste, but that is a problem easily fixed. For under $5 it is an awesome lunch for the students of Mt.SAC right across the street. As a former student there I know the students are always in search of good cheap food.
